    How we support our Children

    How do we support children with special educational needs?

    All adults at The Woodland Federation of Peak District Schools understand that children learn and develop in different ways and at different rates.  Teachers and teaching assistant recognise this and adapt their teaching styles, resources and ensure that they plan different levels of work in the classroom to cater for the various ways children learn.  However, many children, at some point in their school life, will require some additional support.

    We will talk to parents/carers if staff think their child ha a special educational need and let the know how the school can give support.

    Staff will find ways to support children such as:

    • Adapting the way that activities are planned and delivered;
    • Ensuring that activities are matched to the ability and need of each child;
    • Adapting learning materials to suit children's needs;
    • Planning and providing small group or 1:1 support.

    Working in partnership with the parents, we may seek the advice and support of external specialists such as health professionals, specialist teachers or educational psychologists.  These specialists may:

    • Carry out additional assessment of need;
    • Provide advice to schools on how to best support children;
    • Suggest resources that may help children may progress.
